This is shocking! How dare they keep something like that back form you, Daniel's parent. To think that he has lost out in schooling support is very sad. I hope that he will start getting help now.

It sounds as if you need good legal advice as to how you should proceed with this. Citizen's Advice comes to mind perhaps as a starting point.

The CAB will help put you in the right direction. You will be entitled to compensation for this lack of care and witholding vital medical records.

This is so awful for you and your family,
Usual practice would be to complain either to the provider of the service or to the primary care trust who commission the services, there should also be an independent complaints advocacy service that may be able to support BUT in your circumstances this is not usual complaint situation due to timescales involved and the complaint involved so rather than this option....

I agree with others definitely to seek LEGAL advice first. This is grossly neglectful practice to omit vital information from you, as parents - and for you to have to find out by medical records is completely unacceptable practice and the consequences upon Daniel's school experience.

Citizen Advice is a very good starting point - they have access to solicitors with specific specialisms - I have had really good experience with CAB in the past a few years ago and even though i dont get any benefits at all - all advice including 2 meetings with legal experts were completely free. They helped with understanding systems, letter writing and putting things in perspective - & the emotional support of all this was immense.

As Melly suggests there certainly seems scope for compensation to support Daniel with schooling needs and other support - not to mention the emotional impact upon you and your family,

This is awful! Surely as parents you have the right to know any health issues affecting Daniel. I'm sorry, I don't really have any advice, beyond what others have said - Citizen's Advice is a very good starting point and they'll advise you on the next step. I'm so sorry, Tina, this must be awful for you, knowing that you could have had help earlier if you'd known all the facts.

If you feel you need to go down the legal route, may I suggest you contact Ann Alexander, the senior partner at Alexander & Co in Altrincham. They are a worldwide firm who specialise in just this kind of case. They acted for the thalidomide Respondents and many more high profile cases. You would need a specialist as opposed to a general lawyer. If you pm me I can give you all the details.

Thanks barbara for that, i am going to hold off till we go to manchester next week and see what they say as i dont want to rock the boat till daniel had all tests cause i think they will go hush hush if they relise what we planning
